Hi Everybody,
I know, long time no see…hey, when you read this letter you will
understand…your old buddy, KC, has been a busy guy.
Last weekend we played an amazing show in New Orleans with Kid Rock at
the Superdome. Our day began with a five hour ride through the streets
of the city, on a float, in the Endymion Parade…the biggest of the over
fifty Mardi Gras extravaganzas. We threw out beads to thousands of
people, young and old, who had gathered along the parade route. The
looks on the faces of children, when you make eye contact, and throw
them a strand of plastic beads, are priceless. Many of these kids never
get anything, and their reactions were so heart warming. I have never
smiled for so long in my life. It was a special and spiritual
experience.
At the end of the parade, all of the floats enter the Superdome, and the
party really gets going. We went on around midnight, and Kid Rock
followed us…and the party was just getting started! What a trip.
The next day, I headed off to Nashville to tape a cool new television
show called “Legends and Lyrics”, with my buddies Art Alexakis from
Everclear, and John Waite. It will be airing on PBS, and features a
number of songwriters performing their songs in the round in front of a
live audience. We will announce the air date when it is confirmed.
Meanwhile, Tommy Shaw and I have been holed up at Blue Moon Studio for
the better part of February, writing a new song, and recording it with
all the members of REO and Styx. You heard right…two drummers, two bass
players, two of everything. It’s the rock’n roll Noah’s Ark. The tune is
called “Can’t Stop Rockin’”, (a brand new song, even though it shares
its title with a song I wrote on Building The Bridge).
Wait until you hear this monster…IT ROCKS. Tommy and I sing a duet, and
Dave, Tommy, and JY are the new Classic Rock Guitar Army.
Speaking of which, we are announcing dates for the upcoming, “Can’t Stop
Rockin’” tour, with REO, Styx and 38 Special. This tour is gonna be full
production, hit filled, and as Tommy Shaw says, “Our own little rock’n
roll stimulus package”…in other words, we are keeping the tickets
affordable so everybody can come out and join us this summer.
So we will be seeing you all very soon…we can’t stop rockin’,
kc
PS. The kc listens mailbox is about to explode with messages from so
many of you fine REO family members. When I am off the road, I get
pretty busy being a Dad, husband, etc., and it is difficult to keep up
with returning all the mail that comes in. Now, I still read everything,
but I apologize for not getting back to everyone. I will have more time
once the tour begins...staying in my room writing notes to you guys
helps keep me out of trouble ;-) I appreciate your understanding, please
keep writing. I really do enjoy hearing from all of you.
PPS. One last thing. There are two kinds of letters which I get a lot,
and as much as I wish it could be different, the answer has to be the
same:
1. Q. Hey KC, can you please send me an autographed picture, or a guitar
pick?
A. I wish I could, but I can only respond to messages by email. The best
way to get autographs is to come to a concert. I usually stick around on
stage for a while after the show, and sign all kinds of things...body
parts included! As for guitar picks, the best thing is to catch them, as
I throw a bunch out in the audience during our concerts.
2. Q. Can you play for a benefit concert for a great cause in my town?
A. Again, I wish we could fulfill all of the requests for charity
events. It is an honor to be asked to help. We do play a number of
charitable concerts every year, but we can't possibly do every one we
are asked about. If you are truly interested, and your cause is genuine,
(unfortunately we get a number of bogus requests, as well), I suggest
you contact our agency, CAA Nashville. I don't mean to be impersonal on
this subject, but when these requests come in to this site, I cannot
respond any more. I am really sorry, but I need to set some boundaries.
Keep Pushin'
