Hey Brothers and Sisters,
I am flying high, in the clouds, literally, somewhere above the Great
Plains of the midwestern United States. My altitude/attitude is
partially due to the fact that I am headed home from the road, but
equally so a result of my excitement about this summer's "Can't Stop
Rockin'" tour, with Styx and 38 Special.
In my life, I have always felt more at home in the role of underdog, the
final kid chosen in the pick-up basketball game, the last one of my
buddies to lose his virginity, (although, as a result of my profession,
I may have caught up with most of them ;-). It is when life is most
chaotic that I am generally the most artistically productive. So this
unsettling phase of U.S. history actually motivates me to get to work.
Now, if your family is one of the millions directly affected by these
current economic conditions, if you have lost your job or your home, you
are in my family's thoughts and bedtime prayers every night. I believe
with all of my heart and soul that this will turn around. The pendulum
of history is in perpetual motion, and we are now experiencing an
extreme. Everyone needs to hang tough, help one another other to stay
positive, and trust that things will begin to swing back into balance.
Each of our energy is an integral part of fueling that change.
I think REO Speedwagon music is well suited for these troubled times. We
know how to deal with adversity, to turn lemons into lemonade, to find
the fertilizer amongst the horse crap. We have been writing about it,
and doing it for our entire career. From "Keep Pushin'", "Ridin' The
Storm Out", and "Roll With The Changes", through "Smilin' In The End"
and up to our latest release, "Can't Stop Rockin'", our duet with Styx,
we have chronicled our own personal journey to salvation, by navigating
through the worst of times.
At first listen, the new "Can't Stop Rockin'" single may sound like a
simple, fun rock track, and that it is, but the real message is in there
too. "Tighten your belt, dirty your hands, lace up your boots and make a
stand",..."When it all gets better is anybody's guess, so while we're
learning to be happy with less, you can dust off your dancing shoes,
paint your fingernails and rub on some rouge"...are just a couple of
examples of what this song, and the upcoming REO/Styx tour, is all
about.
The "Can't Stop Rockin'" tour, and song, were both conceived as the
antidote for this weird phase which our country is going through. We
have held ticket prices to a minimum, while we amp up the production,
and continue to work on figuring out ways to make our tour more
accessible to everyone who needs a little shot of classic rock to soothe
their soul.
In uneasy, unpredictable times such as these, we all need to leave our
worries behind for a while, whenever we can. We all need to get out and
hear some music that makes us feel good. That is the mission of REO,
Styx and 38 Special this summer.
See you on the road, keep pushin',
KC
