Kevin's guitars.

I have compiled a small interview with Danny O' Neil, Kevin's guitar tech. Danny was kind enough to help out with some cool information for  this page.

Thanks to everyone that requested this page!

Webmaster D...

What type of guitar does Kevin use?

Electrics :Fender Telecasters 1952 , 1958 , 1962

Acoustics : Ovation  "Viper Series" 6 and 12 string

What type of guitar string does Kevin prefer?

Ernie Ball - Acoustic Lights

Ernie Ball - Electric : Gauge #11

How many, of each guitar, does Kevin keep on the road with him? (how many backups?)

Electrics : Total of 3 Fender Telecasters (All used during show)

Acoustics : Total of 5, 4 of them are 6 string Vipers and 1 is a 12 string Viper. Kevin uses 3 out of the 4 Acoustic Vipers during the show and we have one as a back up.

What type of amp does Kevin use?

Kevin uses -  2  VOX AC-30 Combos

Does Kevin endorse any equipment?

Kevin Endorses : Ernie Ball Strings and Picks & Straps, Ovation Guitars, and VOX Amplification

Can you explain how Kevin sets up his 12 string for "Time for me to Fly", and why he thumbs the cords?

The set up for the 12 string is simple yet hard for me to explain....ha ha..... The guitar is tuned to to a full step down tuning and since the neck is a slight bit larger then a standard Acoustic, the reason for Kevin using his thumb to bar the cord is because, to be simple, it is easier. By baring the 1st and 3rd strings (I.E.; E.A.D) with the full step down tuning, it makes the acoustic a full cord. And that is the short version of the explanation.

Any extra info about his equipment?

Kevin uses Bradshaw Multi Switches, Samson Wireless, and a few effects pedals (IE; VOX Distortion, Boss Delay/Reverb pedal ). All are wired in the back of the rack and go out to the VOX AC - 30's.

Kevin playing a new Takamine acoustic guitar.

kC sent me this info in a note this morning.

Thanks D,

The Takamine was a gift from Mike Markure, a long time friend of the band, who now runs the company. We needed a great acoustic guitar when we recorded  the track for the Santa song last month in Cincinnati, so Mike rushed this  one out to me. I played it on the track, fell in love with it, I have refused  to send it back!

The guitar is a beauty, and so is Mike.

kC.

Visit the Takamine website for info on these guitars.

 Kevin's  6 string "Ovation"                 Kevin's 1952  Fender "Telecaster"

Kevin's main electric guitar is a genuine 1951 "NoCaster". This guitar is very "rare" and expensive. Kevin uses his 52 Telecaster when he is on tour. He decided not to take his "No-Caster" on the road with him for obvious reasons.

Kevin's  Fender "Relic" Telecaster.

This  1962 Telecaster is a "Relic".  The Fender "Relic" series guitars are actually new guitars, built to original specs by the Fender Custom Shop.  They are artificially aged to look like old well worn guitars.  Kevin got his new Red Relic Telecaster  from   Norm's Rare Guitars  with  help from Dave Amato .  It is not a vintage guitar though it does look like one.
