March 12th, 2010

A few weeks after Brad Paisley came up on stage with us to sing background vocals on "Roll With The Changes" in Nashville, I paid him a visit backstage at Jimmy Kimmel Live in LA. I had a great time hanging with actor Eric Roberts in the Green Room, which led to his stepson, Keaton Simons being booked to open a number of REO/Benatar shows this coming summer.

During his interview, Brad was talking about tour pranks, so I decided to play one on him during his live performance. Needless to say, he was surprised when an "unfamiliar roadie" ran out on stage for his final guitar change. I had the whole running out really fast, crouching down, handing him his guitar thing, down. I would make a dang good guitar tech, if I do say so myself.

We are in Myrtle Beach tonight, and Savannah tomorrow, with Edwin McCain as special guest on both shows. He will be doing a bunch of the REO/Benatar shows this summer too. Edwin is awesome, be sure and get to the concerts early.

New 2010 tour with Pat Benatar and others?

Kevin writing new songs???

30th anniversary of the release of "Hi Infidelity"?

Kevin explains it all in his latest Newsletter,  02/25/2010

Hi guys,

I guess I just needed a break, some time to be a daddy, a husband, a friend, a lover, a neighbor, a coach, and finally a songwriter. All of those roles led me to finishing my first new tune in nearly a year. For me, there is no feeling quite like playing a freshly created song for the first time. Then comes the anxiety laden adventure of parading my latest in front of the band.

Now, I am one of the fortunate few songwriters who has a full time band, by the name of REO Speedwagon, who hunger for their chance to take this little morsel I just cooked up, and feast upon it. Like a pack of coyotes eying a plump little bunny, they prepare their chops, as they listen and learn the nuances of every chord change and rhythmic passage. Each attempts to embrace, then capture, the flow of music and emotion which has been laid before them.Being a part of the process, as well as an observer, is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job. I feel honored by the care which the guys take in building my little folk song into an REO Speedwagon song. I am a very lucky guy.

In the midst of the song building process, we find time to do what Bruce and Neal actually traveled cross-country to join forces with Dave, Bryan, and me to do...rehearse for the upcoming summer tour. Yes, we still really do rehearse ;-).The upcoming "Love On The Run Tour" with REO and Pat Benatar, plus special guest singer/songwriters such as Edwin McCain and Keaton Simons, fires up in mid-June, and runs through October 2010. We are very pumped to be out with Pat and Neil Giraldo for the first time since 1995.

This year, and 2011, will mark the 30 year anniversary of the recording, release, and phenomenal success story of our Hi Infidelity album, which is a part of just under ten million people's record collections. I am not much into nostalgia, I prefer looking forward, growing, and creating new music, but this particular anniversary is just too special. We have chosen to embrace, and celebrate, this most magical series of events, and share this unbelievable feeling with the whole REO Family.

So, starting with the four sold-out shows this weekend with Styx and 38 Special, in Rockford, Springfield, Louisville, and Toledo, we will pay homage to the album, which after ten years of touring and recording, put our band on the map in 1981. We will be playing Hi Infidelity songs which have been rarities on our set lists over the years, including visual images from that time period in our stage production, and featuring special items at the merch stand to commemorate the album which altered the history of our band so immeasurably.

I am looking forward to including all of you, our most loyal fans, as we look back, and forward, through the next eighteen months. Hold on babe, here we go!

Kevin has told me that REO has been in the studio for the last month finishing the mixes and approving artwork for the new REO Christmas CD. The CD is due  to be released in early November of 09'.

The recording is being released by Sony music. Kevin say's it is a bit different working with Sony rather than working on an independent REO record. They have deadlines!

Stay tuned for more details on the release date and a cool Christmas television special.

Note from kC...

Hey All You Pen-pals,

Between all of the preparation for the Can't Stop Rockin Tour, and spending as much "Daddy time" as possible before the tour begins, I have fallen horribly behind in answering your emails. I promise I have read every single message, and I appreciate your support and input, but I need to let go, and start over beginning today....okay?

Thanks, you guys rock,

Nancy sent in these great pictures of Kevin as he performed with Tommy Shaw on the "The Early Show". Nancy also sent in pictures from Kevin's Broadway debut! Kevin and Tommy are supporting the Can't Stop Rockin' tour with appearances just prior to next months tour kick-off.

Nancy had an amazing time, as did others, watching Kevin and Tommy sing their new single "Can't Stop Rockin"! You can check out the video of Kevin and Tommy on The Early Show LIVE HERE... You can also see the video of REO and STYX from the studio recording the song HERE...

Nancy says...

The Early Show concert with Kevin and Tommy was simply wonderful and they sounded great. We all helped of course - got to chime in on the chorus of Can't Stop Rockin'.  Afterwards, having Kevin sign my REO tattoo and getting that big hug from him was definitely a highlight!!!

Kevin and Tommy's Broadway debut was nothing short of amazing! They did the new song again, this time "plugged in" with the Rock of Ages band (including Joel Hoekstra!) and the whole theater was jumpin'!! To say it was awesome is an understatement, but I don't have the words to describe the experience - but I will say that Monday ranks up there as one of the best days of my life, to be sure!

Here are some great pictures of the events...

Dave Rowland sent in some amazing live pictures of REO. Visit his website HERE and let him know how much you liked his pictures. Check out the pictures on picture page 33.  Thanks Dave!

Also, Kevin shares his vacation with us.

"With the "Can't Stop Rockin'" tour rapidly approaching, I thought a little family trip would be a good idea. We spent a couple of days in San Francisco doing the tourist thing, then visited cousins in Bolinas, and wound up with our new friends, Jack and Dawn Galante, at their sprawling winery/ranch in the scenic Carmel Valley. Here is photographic evidence that I actually did take a vacation, and that I really do have a family."

A little kC "Blog" for fans here at KevinCronin.com.
As I sit here in my hotel room, tears of hope on my cheeks, having just watched the best and the brightest of our country’s artist community usher in a new era of America from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on HBO, I am moved to share my feelings with you as I feel them.

I am an optimistic person. In every song I have ever written, no matter the depth of darkness from which it was conceived, there has always been a message of hope. My own songs often serve to remind me that in the toughest of times, hope must remain undying.

I came of age as the Vietnam War was raging. My generation bares the scars of that most horrible of wars. As I lived through it, watched it ravage my countrymen and divide generations, deep inside I knew that human beings were better than that. When that war came to an end, and the president who characterized it was forced to step down, I felt sure that the mistakes, which got our country embroiled in that flawed and failed effort, would never be repeated.

As I look back over the past few years, I must admit that there have been times when I have doubted the very hope that has been the foundation of my life. I have witnessed as greed, intolerance, and shortsightedness, have replaced the spirit of sharing, acceptance, and peace, in which I so fervently believe.

Greed will gain us nothing. Intolerance will get us nowhere. Shortsightedness will only lead us backwards. Today, as my eyes overflow with tears of hope and renewal, I believe that all Americans need to let this breath of optimism fill us, and guide us, and inspire us once again.

There is no escaping the fact that these are scary times. We will all need to work hard and sacrifice plenty in our quest to regain faith in our government. As Mr. Obama says, “Things are going to get worse before they get better, and our country’s recovery will not happen overnight.”. He has stated repeatedly that our government cannot cure the ills of our nation without the cooperation of all of us. Each of us needs to do our part as citizens, co-workers, neighbors and parents.

We have a unique opportunity to soak up the inspiration that President Obama is offering. We can let go of the stale ideas of entitlement, greed and exclusiveness, and replace them with the virtues that Mr. Obama embodies. Watch as he reaches out to those who have differing points of view, and learns from them. Listen to the power of his words and the strength of his convictions. If you are wary of his vision for the future, give the benefit of the doubt. Give his dream a chance to come true, because it may be the best chance we have to save our country, and restore America to its rightful place as the greatest country in the world.

Keep Pushing,

KC

PS. I just spoke to my beautiful, twelve year old daughter, Holly. Her life is a picture of purity, happiness, and love. I am filled with joy at the prospect that from now until she is at least twenty years old, she will live in an era of hope. The world needs people like Holly, and she will thrive in an environment which President Obama has pledged to do everything in his power to provide and nurture.

April 21st, 2008

Kevin has sent in a little note for the fans here at KevinCronin.com.

"Hi Gang,

Well, this has sure been a bizarre week...

It is never good news when you turn on your cell phone upon landing in the Detroit Airport, and the first message you see is to call the office immediately. We kinda figured as much, but were still bummed to hear that Joe Elliott's doctor had not cleared him to sing, and that sold out shows in Grand Rapids and Detroit had to be canceled. We all went home for a few days, which was kind of cool for me on a personal level. I got to be at my sons' First Holy Communion, I attended my first Passover dinner at a friend's home, and I was able to celebrate Lisa's birthday with the family.

So today we pack up, and head to Idaho, with our fingers crossed, and hopes of rocking Boise tomorrow night. I am told that the Lepps are on a plane as we speak, so that is encouraging. I am pretty sure that the remaining few shows will find us all back to form, and ready to kick butt. We hope to be a part of as many of the rescheduled dates as possible...we will keep you posted.

Anyway, the main reason for this little note is to let you know that Webmaster D and I have devised a way for me to be able to answer your emails directly. Cool, eh! I have sent responses to a bunch of people already, and so far so good. We'll see how it goes, and hopefully make this a permanent fixture at kevincronin.com.

Okay, I am off to the airport...wish me luck.

Kevin has stated several times that he truly "Listens" to his fans here at KevinCronin.com. This is an important message from Kevin  to the REO fans in Bourbons, Illinois. Below is kC's personal note.

------

To Kris from Bourbons, Illinois...the person who you mentioned as "someone I wish I had never met", is in no way connected to REO Speedwagon, and any promises this man makes on our behalf are completely without merit. I despise the idea of someone misrepresenting himself as being part of our organization, to the detriment of any fan of REO Speedwagon. I find this behavior to be despicable.

John McLaughlin sent in this report and some great pictures from the Altoona, Iowa show on October 5th, 2007. It seems as though Iowa was hit by a major storm that devastated many homes and businesses. John reached out to REO for their support. The story is below and the pictures can be found HERE!

DD...

------------

On Sunday evening, September 30th, a large tornado cut a 22 mile path across central Iowa, damaging or destroying homes and businesses and disrupting the lives of hundreds of Iowans. Local KCCI TV meteorologist and chopper pilot John McLaughlin surveyed the damage from his helicopter and wondered what could be done to help lift the spirits of these hard working Iowans.

"That night I woke up at 3:30 am and "Ridin' the Storm Out" was going through my mind. I fired up the laptop and dropped KC a note
about helping out with the donation of some tickets to the REO show on October 5th at the Prairie Meadows Event Center in Altoona, Iowa so some storm victims could come party and take a break from looking for their belongings in the cornfields.
"

Kevin responded almost immediately and the ball was rolling to donate the bands 20 reserved seats to the already sold out show.
McLaughlin got in contact with the storm victims and soon the tickets were spoken for.

"I knew that being from the Midwest, KC would understand how devastating these storms can be and how long it takes to pick up the pieces," said McLaughlin, a lifelong REO fan.

The show was nothing less than awesome as KC led into the encore of "Ridin the Storm Out" with some inspirational words for the tornado survivors. After the show, KC appeared on the local 10pm news and summed up the evenings performance by saying "these folks have had their lives disrupted and they have all kind of cleanup to do. If we took their minds off things for a couple of hours, then we've done our job."

It was a job well done, indeed!

Thanks John,

DD...

The Dallas Morning News posted this review of REO's new CD "Find Your Own Way Home". Check it out below....

-----------------

REO Speedwagon

Find Your Own Way Home
(Mailboat Recordings, 2007)

The Speedwagon's first studio album in 11 years sounds better than anybody would have expected. Largely written and produced by lead singer Kevin Cronin, whose permanent grin belies the newfound grit in his voice, Home finds the group aiming for arena rock cred again. It kicks up dust, particularly on tracks such as "Smilin' in the End," "Another Lifetime" and "Everything You Feel," but also offers more organic power ballads, namely "I Needed to Fall." For good fun, there's the boogie-woogie rocker "Run Away Baby." REO is loose and energized on a disc that grows stronger with each listen.

Well folks, if you read the latest kC "Newsletter" dated 2-27-07, you will see that REO will be changing the title of the new CD as well as the cover artwork one last time.  kC stated it this way...

"The whole upside down bird thing, and "Everyone Loves A Happy Ending", just never caught on. They didn't really represent this music and these songs well enough. It was just never quite right. So it needed to change. Yikes! Not much time to make all of that happen.

But we have done it. "

Also, kC informed me that they will be releasing 2 singles to radio stations beginning on March 19th. "Smilin' In The End" to Classic Rock and Rock stations, and "I Needed To Fall" to AC and Hot AC, as well as all the rock stations. They have just started the process of making a video for "I Needed To Fall". I will keep you posted on the release date for the video to VH-1.

There have been several people asking about the new CD Box-Set being available over-seas. Kevin tells me that everyone will be able to get the CD's "first-run" Box Set via the Wal Mart website starting April 3rd.

Remember, the Box Set is only offered on the first run of CDs, so get your order in as soon as you can. Below is the note kC sent out for the European REO fans...

"News Tidbit:

By the way, the new CD/boxed set will definitely be available at walmart.com, as well as Wal Mart locations, but as I said it is only the first run. As of April 3, if anyone goes into a Wal Mart and does not see the new CD...Raise Some Hell, er I mean ask a sales representative.

There is a new release date for the upcoming record. It's April 3rd. Kevin told me, tonight, that he is back in  the studio working on some extra "stuff" that the guys from Wal Mart are beggin' for. I am not sure that this is the reason for the 1 week delay, but Kevin said he will send some details to us soon.

Keep checkin' in for the latest...

January 18th, 2007

I just received some cool info from kC. It seems as though they have officially named the new CD... "Everyone Loves A Happy Ending". Check out the note from Kevin.

"Yeah, I know I promised more music. I have to go back East tomorrow, and will be out of the studio until next Wednesday. I'll do the necessary edits then, and with any luck we will have at least one new snippet by the end of next week.

We are laying down the final mix for "Let My Love Find You" at this moment, so we will be finished with our new album, "Everyone Loves A Happy Ending", in about two minutes. I could not be happier with the way this album has turned out.

More release date and tour info coming soon. Thanks to everyone for their patience.

January 1st, 2007

I had a quick chat with kC about the new CD and rumors about cool things they  have planned for next year. Kevin told me that they have the first official deadline on the music and artwork for the new CD. The past deadlines they were working with were "band imposed". January 19th is the deadline for REO to turn over the record and artwork  for an early spring release. Kevin said he just finished the liner notes and they are real close on the artwork.

Also, the rumor of the XM radio taping of Hi Infidelity is, in fact, being finished. This will be an enhanced video with backstage video and interviews as well as the entire audio performance. Kevin tells me that this will be sold in Wal Mart stores as a limited release bonus package with the new CD.

A "Making Of" DVD will also be in the works later in the year. If this wasn't enough,.... keep your eyes on Speedwagon.com over the next several days for MORE snips from the new CD!

Kevin want's to thank everyone for a great year and a Rockin' new year in 2007!

Keep Rockin',

November 17th, 2006

I received a little note from kC this afternoon. He told me that there were rumors going around and he wanted to make sure everybody heard them. Yes folks, kC is spreading rumors.... I'll let his note explain...

"Rumor has it that something special will be coming to Speedwagon.com soon after Thanksgiving. Let's just say that the three opening songs from the new CD are in the can...final mixes completed. And with the Holidays at hand, we feel like our loyal peeps deserve some treats. Stay tuned.

Rumor number two is that we finally named this bad boy, as well...the official announcement is coming very soon.

Plenty of good things happening here in our camp...I have to wear shades.

November 3rd, 2006

I had a quick email chat with kC about the work that is being done on the new CD. Kevin said that they will get back in the studio this Monday and start mixing the record. I am not sure how long this process will take but it seems that things are still on track for an early 07' release! kC also admitted nothing as to the name of the record company or any firm release date of the new CD. He said "It's still classified D"... Hey guys, I'm tryin' here!!... OK??

kC did admit to me that rumors of a tour with BOSTON are somewhat true and is being discussed but nothing is in stone just yet.

Keep checking in on kC.com for as much info as I can get out of kC on the new record.

Keep Rockin',

September 1st, 2006

kC sent in this note in reaction to the response from fans about the new CD title, "Happy Ending".

The last REO record?...I sure hope not. But hey, all we have is the present, the future is the great unknown. I say, enjoy today.

That being said, I have gotten to know myself really well during this album, we all have. This record tells an honest story, with each song another chapter, and all of our collective lives woven within. The last song, "Let My Love Find You", is a prayer of sorts, filled with hope and love. I sing it to my daughter as a lullaby. So you see, the story does have a "Happy Ending". When you hear the record it will all make sense...I promise.

KC

Thanks kC,

kC has given us some very cool info in his latest "Newsletter" dated 08-29-06. It seems as though the new REO CD has been named. "Happy Ending" is the working title of the CD that, hopefully, the masters will be turned in by Thanksgiving! Release date still pending.

Check out REO's Myspace website until the official site returns with all the info and look of the new CD, Happy Ending.
